21st Century Leadership
The Brea Police Department has been at the cutting edge of law enforcement in many areas over the years—from technology to state of the art policing styles and tactics. Currently, in the area of effective leadership, Brea has once again stepped to the forefront in policing. Several years ago, the Brea Police Department transitioned to a leadership style commonly referred to as the 21st Century Leadership Model—an approach grounded in inclusiveness, open communication, collaboration, and influence relationships. The foundation of leadership and direction of the Brea Police Department is based squarely on building and enhancing strong relationships at all levels of the organization and with members of the communities we serve. Employees are considered stakeholders in the direction of the department, and are engaged in many important decisions about that direction. Through collaboration and consensus-building, our officers and other employees feel they have a direct influence on the decisions that impact their careers and working environment. The Brea Police Department understands that personal meaning and self-worth are intrinsic rewards that are highly valued and our leadership style is geared toward that end.
