Traffic/Motorcycle Enforcement
The department has a large Traffic unit, which employs the use of motorcycle officers for traffic enforcement. With the rapid growth of the cities of Brea and Yorba Linda, the region has experienced a sharp increase in traffic levels. The Brea Police Department has become renowned for its innovative and aggressive approach to traffic safety and enforcement. Utilizing a combination of education and enforcement, the Traffic unit seeks to significantly reduce the volume of injury traffic collisions in both cities it serves.
The Traffic unit continually seeks to utilize the latest technology in traffic enforcement, including Laser radar and electronic citation writers. They also ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which they may take home during off-duty hours.
