911 Public Safety Dispatching
The City of Brea 911 Communications Center provides emergency dispatching services for the Brea Police Department and the Brea Fire Department. Working under the supervision of the Police Department, under the direction of the Communications Supervisor, Dispatchers are responsible for receiving 911 calls, taking non-emergency calls for service, and dispatching police and fire units. Brea Dispatchers utilize the latest in Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) technology to dispatch and coordinate field units, often managing multiple incidents at once. Dispatchers work in a team environment, with the police Dispatcher assisting Fire, Fire assisting Police, and a primary call-taker and/or Senior Dispatcher assisting both.
Brea Dispatch is a 24/7 operation with Dispatchers working 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week with one 8 hour “payback” every other week. Dispatchers earn a shift differential pay bonus of 3% when working evening and night shifts. The position of Senior Dispatcher is a promotional opportunity for Dispatchers. Senior Dispatchers act as the lead dispatcher on a given shift, and also perform supervisory duties. Overseeing the dispatch operations is the Communications Supervisor who plans, assigns, organizes, supervises and coordinates the work of Public Safety Communications Center staff.
